About Harvest Blend
Harvest is a time of abundance. More than the change in the weather, it is the quieting of the fields that connects us to an age old cycle: to sow, to cultivate, to harvest, to lie fallow.
Here in the Driftless, trees blaze crimson and gold and the cornstalks sway overhead. The barns are stacked high with hay and pumpkins grow fat. And these cold nights and crisp mornings make for ideal coffee drinking.
As with all of our seasonal blends, Harvest captures the fresh flavor profiles and delicate subtleties of this season’s standouts. A cozy roast of new arrivals from Guatemala, this blend is clean and expressive with a full body to bolster you for the coming cold.
This year’s blend represents the harvest of just two coffee producers: Ana Estela and Adrian Hernandez. Both Ana and Adrian farm in the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala. Set against a staggering backdrop of active volcanoes, here at altitude they carefully tend to their Bourbon, Catuai & Caturra varieties.
Ana and Adrian, are members of a cooperative of smallholder farmers, which is in turn part of a larger organization called FECCEG, La Federación Comercializadora de Café Especial de Guatemala. A non-for-profit, second-level cooperative, FECCEG was founded in 2006 in the face of a plummeting commodity market. FECCEG helps to support the economic integrity of this farming landscape by offering technical assistance, agricultural education, gender equity resources, market access, and more to a dozen smallholder farmer cooperatives throughout the Guatemalan Highlands.
This is our second year working with FECCEG, and we’ve been extremely impressed by both the quality of coffee and their ability to identify and set aside exceptional single farmer lots like these, incentivising quality and highlighting the best of what the region has to offer.
