Introduction to Coffee & Origin

Introduction to Coffee & Origin provides an opportunity to establish a foundational understanding of the coffee supply chain. This course will include a thorough examination of farmer processes, quality control, sustainability, and importing. Students will also begin developing a palate, protocol, and vocabulary around coffee evaluation through a hands on, standardized method of assessment called cupping.

Espresso Fundamentals

In Espresso Fundamentals, baristas will learn the basic skills necessary to consistently produce quality espresso. Through hands on practice, students will gain a familiarity and comfort with espresso equipment and learn SCAA standards and the variables that affect the final product. We will also begin exploring drink construction, sustainability, customer service, and bar flow in specialty coffee retail stores.

Advanced Espresso & Milk Science

Advanced Espresso & Milk Science offers a chance for baristas to delve into the nuances of making consistently high quality espresso and espresso drinks. With a practical focus on milk texture and pouring, efficiency, and bar flow, this course is meant for advanced students who are hope to continue to improve their skills and to become leaders in their cafes.

Brewing Basics

Brewing Basics, an essential course for all baristas working in specialty coffee, is a foundational course exploring the science behind brewing a fantastic cup of coffee. Students will gain a comprehensive knowledge of the variables that affect extraction and learn SCAA standard brewing protocol for various manual brew methods. Hands on practice will help reinforce these principals and give baristas the confidence to make adjustments in their brewing methods as necessary.

Brewing at Home

This consumer course is designed to optimize home brewing for all those wishing to brew an amazing cup of coffee at home. In Brewing at Home, students will learn the variables effecting extraction - including grind and water filtration - and how to make adjustments to their home brewing method as necessary. These principles will be reinforced through hands on practice with different manual brew methods including a French Press, Kalita, AeroPress, and Siphon.
